WHO AM I SUPPOSED TO BE?
Every teacher I’ve ever had was always telling me, “Charlie Dinks, you have to pay more attention”, or “Charlie, you have to study harder if you ever want to be successful in life”, or “Mr. Dinks, your best just isn’t good enough, but it’s not your fault.” I always wondered who am I supposed to be?
I have what everyone calls a disability. I’m not very smart. Really, I’m pretty nonsmart, if there is such a word. I’ll never own a fancy car or live in a mansion or taste champagne, but I smelled it once and I don’t think I’m missing anything. And the bubbles jumped into my nose when I got too close to the glass.
I’m not really good at anything except mopping floors, taking out trash and cleaning up messes, my specialty. That’s the only job I’ve ever had. I’m an assistant janitor.
Oh, there is one thing I’m really good at and that’s memorizing the Scripture in the Holy Bible. I can’t remember anything from any schoolbook I ever read but if you say something from the Bible, I can tell you right where to find it. Funny, huh? I figure if God said it, it’s important to know it.
Mr. Borboso, my boss, tests me all the time. I enjoy reading and sharing from the Bible so I don’t mind at all. Today, he asked me to tell him Psalm 36 Verse 5 and I told him, Your love, O Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies.
Then he asked me where to find, So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God? I had to rub my head on that one and I should probably tell you I wear my hair very short because I have trouble remembering to comb it and this way I don’t have to. I told him that was Verse 12 of Chapter 14 of Romans and he squeezed my shoulder in a nice way.
Mr. Borboso, Mr. B, I call him, is a very nice man and sometimes, when he’s sad or angry I tell him where to find God’s Words that will help him feel better. Once I told him, Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy. I told Mr. B. that was in the Book of John, Chapter 16, Verse 22 and he read it and cried. And I cried, too.
Not everyone is as nice as Mr. B. and I try to fix those that aren’t. Some people look at me like they feel sad for me and I give them a really big smile and hope they remember to smile back the next time they see me.
Who am I supposed to be? I love God and he loves me just the way I am.
You make blogging look like a walk in the park! I’ve been trying to blog daily but I just cant find writing material.. you’re an inspiration to me and i’m sure many others!
